Handling and compatibility

Protect the platinum surface

Use clean, suitable tongs and light pressure. Platinum is soft: avoid deforming the rim, scratching the surface or contacting other metals during heating.

Check the sample before heating

Do not use aqua regia, molten alkalis or peroxide mixtures. Avoid materials that can alloy with platinum. Unknown compositions and samples containing sulfur, phosphorus, arsenic or reducible metal compounds require a compatibility review.
