Four-Sided Fixed-Gap Film Applicator

https://www.s4r.fr/web/image/product.template/325/image_1920?unique=1980eb5

The S4R Four-Sided Fixed-Gap Film Applicator is a precision-machined manual coating tool designed for fast and repeatable wet-film preparation in battery, ceramic, polymer and functional-material research.

Each applicator incorporates four fixed coating gaps in a single 304 stainless-steel body. Rotating the applicator selects the required nominal gap, eliminating adjustment mechanisms and providing a simple, robust solution for comparative coating studies and routine laboratory drawdowns.

Four gap combinations are available, from 5 µm ultra-fine nominal clearance to 400 µm, together with coating widths from 80 to 200 mm. The working surfaces are precision machined and polished, while laser-engraved markings identify each gap directly on the applicator.

Typical applications include battery electrode slurry coating, separator and membrane modification, ceramic films, polymer coatings, paints, inks and other laboratory wet-film preparation processes.

Precision Wet-Film Application

Four-Sided Fixed-Gap Film Applicator

Precision-machined 304 stainless-steel applicator with four fixed nominal coating gaps

A robust manual applicator for controlled laboratory drawdowns. Each applicator incorporates four fixed nominal gaps into a single precision-machined body. Simply rotate the applicator to select the required working face, eliminating micrometer adjustment and helping reduce setup-related variation between coating runs.

Product Highlights

Four coating gaps in one solid tool

The fixed-gap construction provides a straightforward alternative to micrometer-adjustable applicators when a defined set of nominal clearances is sufficient for the coating protocol.

01

Four fixed gaps

Each working face provides a different nominal clearance. Rotate the applicator to select the required gap.

02

304 stainless steel

Precision-machined stainless-steel construction provides a rigid, durable coating tool with good corrosion resistance for routine laboratory use.

03

Polished working surfaces

The working surfaces are machined and polished to minimise burrs and surface defects that could interfere with the drawdown.

04

Laser-engraved marking

Durable engraved markings identify the nominal gap directly on each working face for quick selection.

Available Configurations

Four gap sets for different coating ranges

Each applicator is supplied with one selected set of four nominal gaps. Four coating widths are available for each gap configuration.

5 / 10 / 15 / 20

µm nominal

For very thin wet-film and functional-coating studies where small nominal clearances are required.

25 / 50 / 75 / 100

µm nominal

Fine-to-medium range for thin electrode, separator, membrane and formulation-development coatings.

50 / 100 / 150 / 200

µm nominal

General-purpose range suitable for many laboratory battery-electrode and materials-coating workflows.

100 / 200 / 300 / 400

µm nominal

Extended range for thicker slurries, ceramic films and other high-build coating formulations.

Available coating widths Each selected gap set is available in 80, 120, 150 and 200 mm coating widths. Select the width according to the required coated area and substrate dimensions.

Typical Applications

Laboratory wet-film preparation

  • Battery anode and cathode slurry coating
  • Separator and membrane coatings
  • Ceramic and functional films
  • Polymer and materials research
  • Paint, ink and coating formulation studies
Nominal gap and actual coating thickness The engraved value represents the nominal mechanical clearance of the selected working face. It should not be interpreted as a guaranteed wet- or dry-film thickness. Actual deposited thickness depends on the formulation rheology, solids content, drawdown speed, substrate properties and drying conditions.
Substrate support and working surfaces Use the applicator on a clean, flat and stable coating surface and keep the substrate properly secured during drawdown. Local substrate wrinkling, contamination or damage to a working edge can alter the coating locally. Clean the applicator promptly after use with a solvent compatible with both the formulation and 304 stainless steel.
